What's happening around Cromer this weekend?

There’s another bumper weekend of fun activities planned around Cromer for this weekend (Friday, May 19 to Sunday, May 21). Here’s a look at what’s going on around the town.
Crab and Lobster Festival events
-Opening night - The popular festival kicks off at 7.30pm Friday on Cromer Pier with an event at the Pavilion Theatre. Laughter and fun will be provided by Olly Day and Nigel ‘Boy’ Syer, songs and shanties will come from the Sheringham Shantymen and the Old Wild Rovers, and there will also be the always-popular dancers from Marlene’s School of Dance. -On Saturday, activities at Evington Gardens kick off at 10am. Over 50 local craft, food and drink stalls are available, with kids entertainment being provided by Razz and Aunty Pearl and Rollo the Clown, and the ever popular Old Wild Rovers will provide us with sea shanties to sing along to. This year’s cookery demonstrations will start at 11.00am and will host the best of the best of local food loving folk including crab dressing by Julie Davies.
There will also be a traditional rope and crab pot making in the main marquee. To replace our annual Crab Race, there is now a Crab Lucky Dip.
-There will also be craft and food stalls, music, entertainment and marine displays along the High Street and Promenade in Sheringham from 11am.
-On Saturday North Lodge Park in Cromer is hosting a gardening festival as part of the programme’s ‘fringe’ events. There will be gardening themed events for all from experienced gardeners to young gardeners, with a range of gardening related stalls, including plant specialists, selling a range of plants and other products for the garden.
-Saturday evening entertainment will include local band Tom, Dick and Harry performing in the main marquee from 6.30pm. There will be street food avaliable from Hot Rocket Pizza, The Duck Truck, Fisherman’s Mission as well as a barbecue and Woodfordes Bewery beverages.
-Lighthouse Art Trail - grab a leaflet and discover some of the many amazingly decorated lighthouses now decorating the windows of shops and other venues in Cromer, Sheringham and beyond.
-There will be a Crab Sandwich Competition on Saturday 2pm-3pm at Evington Gardens. It’s open to all businesses around the town that use Cromer crab.
-On Sunday all the same stalls and entertainment will be there including a cookery theatre and heritage section will be present, and at 2pm the Cromer Crab Sandwich Competition will be judged.
-Rebel Queen - Boudicca’s Challenge to Roman Imperial Rule - At Cromer Library on Friday, May 18 from 7.30pm. Three storytellers spin the dramatic tale of Boudicca’s heroic challenge to Roman Imperial rule. Tickets £5 suitable for aged 14+. Call 01263 512850 to book.

Other events on Saturday
-You can craft a ‘crab’ brooch from pins and beads at the RNLI Henry Blogg Museum on Saturday, 10am-4pm. This is a chance to celebrate Cromer’s world famous seafood with these fun brooches. They use Japanese seed beads and safety pins. Due to the beads being so tiny and the sharp pins, this activity is not suitable for children less than 10 years old.
-There will be an arts workshop using a variety of mediums on Saturday 10am-1pm at Merchant’s Place. Booking essential, call 01263 519454.
-There will be Royal Wedding Celebrations at the Seacroft Caravan and Motorhome Club Site in Runton Road on Saturday, midday to 11pm. There will be a Royal Wedding-themed Wanderer Bar and Kitchen will be providing a selections of high teas, with sandwiches, cream cakes and Pimms to help toast the newly married couple.
-Cromer Museum is taking part in Museums at Night event and will be open on Saturday 6pm-9pm, free admission. The event gives visitors the chance to see and experience museums in a different light and come away with fun memories of a night well spent.
-Four-piece band Hi Definition will play hits from the 50s, 60s, 70s and a few well-chosen songs and modern classics from up to the present day at Cromer Social Club on Saturday, 8.30pm-11.30pm.
-The Welly (Wellington Pub) is having an 80s night from 8pm, hosted by teh venue’s resident DJ.
-The Rat Kings band will play at the King’s Head pub on Saturday from 9pm.

-Wreckless Eric (Eric Goulden) will play ‘alive and alone’ in support of the new album Construction Time & Demolition at Cromer Community Hall on Sunday, 8pm-11.30pm. Visit eventbrite.co.uk for tickets.
