Share you memories of seaside carnival in its 50th year

Have you ever bared your legs in a ‘knobbly knees’ competition, juggled brimming trays in a waiters’ and waitresses’ race or even been a member of the ‘royal family’ at Cromer Carnival?
If so, organisers of the event, which is being held for the 50th time in 2019, want to hear from you.
Cromer Voluntary Entertainments Organisation (CVEO), which puts on the week-long summer fiesta, is hosting a second drop-in morning for people to share their memories and photos of the carnival.
Tony Shipp, carnival chairman, said: “As part of our celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the CVEO we are planning to put together a booklet of photographs, memories, highlights and the history of Cromer Carnival.
“Our first drop in morning was so successful we will be hosting a second one this month.
“I am sure many of you, who have been involved at some time over the past 50 years, have photographs and memories that could be part of that publication.
“It would be great if you could search these out or write them down and email them to us so we can hear what Cromer Carnival has meant to you.”

Mr Shipp is marking 35 years at the carnival’s helm. He added: “Please take time to search through your photographs and write down your memories and highlights - they could be more recently, or 50 years ago.
“It need be only a sentence or two. Let’s see if we can make it a publication that you have contributed to and all supporters of Cromer Carnival will want to own.
“We will also be putting all the memories and photos submitted onto a new website which we hope will grow throughout the year.”
This year’s carnival week will be held between Saturday, August 17 and Friday, August 23, with Carnival Day being held on Wednesday, August 21.
Traditional events will include the bonny baby competition, knobbly knees contest, glamorous grandmother competition, decorated beach hut competition, waiter and waitresses race and family fun day.
Memories can be emailed to email@example.com or call Mr Shipp on 01263 512591.
The drop-in morning will take place at Cromer’s Merchants Place on Saturday, March 16 10am-1pm.
