Food review: Easter afternoon tea at Huckleberries, Cromer

Cromer has more than its fair share of independent cafes - so if you’re after an afternoon tea experience the only question is which one to choose?
We'd heard Huckleberries in Church Street had put an Easter spin on their afternoon tea, so we got cracking and headed in to egg-splore the offering.
The traditional three-tiered stand was colourful and beautiful presented, and it took some willpower to stop myself from lunging straight for the sweeties at the top and, as is custom, to work my way up from the bottom tier.
This was filled with a couple of succulent sausage rolls and an array small buns with fillings like salmon, ham salad and chicken.
Next came the scones on the middle tier - which thought relatively small, made for quite a mouthful after the cream and jam were coated on.
And the Scotch-egg inspired Creme Eggs were the highlight of the sweets tier, with the much-loved treats smothered in a layer of chocolate cookie mix and then with an outer dusting of Biscoff biscuit to give it the proper look.
One of our group mentioned that while she found Creme Eggs ordinarily too sweet, these were spot on.
But dessert wasn't over yet - there were also cups full of Mini Eggs, bunnies and other Easter chocolate as well as fairy cakes to get through.
Then there was a 'second dessert' - a mountain of meringue that came in its own cup - two big, homemade nests of the stuff sandwiching a dollop of creme. Like any good meringue it was wonderfully crunchy on the outside and a bit chewy within.
All together it was more than enough for a lunch-time meal and we found ourselves waddling back to the office with full tummies, thrilled at having tried some of the best of what another of Cromer's great independent eateries has to offer.
The afternoon tea - which comes with a choice of tea or coffees - cost £13 per person or £25 for two, and Huckleberries is offering the Easter-themed variation until April 22.
