Meet Cromer’s resident mermaid in our latest Q&A
This week we hear from Hannah Griffiths, Cromer’s mermaid
How would you best describe what you do in Cromer? I’m Norfolk’s very own mermaid! I host mermaid swimming parties for kids and adults too, for something a little different and to add some mermaid magic to birthday parties. Held in local swimming pools we play mermaid games and lots of mermaid swimming & some bubble tricks too! The kids absolutely love it, they can believe their eyes that they are swimming with a real mermaid.
Where is home? The sea
What’s your earliest Cromer memory? My earliest memory is washing up on Cromer beach in spring time, it was early morning and the sun was rising there were pretty pink, orange and blue colours in the sky - I fell in love and never left.
What is your favourite Cromer pub? Mermaids don’t drink
Which shops do you rely on? I love the charity shops. When I go inland, I love nothing more than browse in them, I was always find some real gems
What’s the best meal you’ve had in Cromer?
My favourite cafe is the Sticky earth cafe because you can go and eat delicious cakes and create your very own art! You get to be creative in a relaxed and invigorating environment
If you could buy any building in Cromer, what would it be? I would buy all the beach huts and offer them to local schools/charities to use.
What would you do if you were mayor for the day? Have a huge mermaid parade and beach clean from Cromer to Overstrand.
Who’s your hero? My mer-grandmother, she has encouraged my love of the ocean.
What do you most love about Cromer? The amazing beach it’s absolutely stunning all year round. It’s has so much marine life and there is so much to do. Simple beach combing can take hours and I love nothing better than to loose myself listening to the ocean.
