As Cromer enjoys the festive season we have dug into our archives to see how the town celebrated Christmas over the years.
Revellers have been thronging the town’s streets to watch the lights switch on for years, with family groups gathering in a black and white photo from 1980, and a line of Santas playing trombones welcoming the festivities to Cromer in 1985.
They’re joined by a smiling man and a woman wearing a glamorous fur coat, surrounded by children asking for autographs.
In later years, Cromer’s lights were lit up by comedian Rikki Jay and Eastenders actress Sophie Lawrence, and the streets of the seaside town are just as packed with residents eager to see the switch on in Church Street.
And the lights are enjoyed by many to this day, with the alternative Christmas tree and the Cromer Pier tree providing an extra festive glow to the wintery streets.
