The catering team at Cromer Academy have come out on top in a regional awards ceremony, beating off competition from 230 other employees.

The team picked up first place in the Vertas Making the Difference Staff Awards.

Taking ‘Team of the Year’, the kitchen staff at Cromer Academy were nominated by Principal Dr Geoff Baker.

Dr Baker said: “Since working with Vertas, the Cromer Academy Catering Team has completely revolutionised catering at the school. “The food is cooked to perfection, includes lots of variety, and is well presented.

“Having lunch at Cromer Academy has become a dining experience as opposed to simply a ‘school lunch’. All members of the catering team take real pride in being part of Cromer Academy and they are an integral part of the school. The relationship between the catering staff, the school and Vertas would strike me as being a model for how successful these relationships can be.”

The ten winners and twenty runners up in the third annual Vertas Making the Difference Staff Awards were announced at a black tie ceremony on Friday, March 2, when 160 guests gathered at Milsoms Kesgrave Hall in Suffolk.

The awards set out to recognise the commitment of star employees within the 2,300 strong workforce in the East of England.

From 230 nominations the Vertas executive board made a shortlist of 30, three in each of the 10 categories.

All finalists, accompanied by the colleague or client who nominated them, were invited to the award ceremony at Milsoms.

Ian Surtees, Vertas Group Limited’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “My congratulations go to the winners and finalists of 2018. I’m delighted with the record number of nominations this year, demonstrating how staff across the Group have embraced the awards, now in their third year.

“From marking lines on school sports pitches in inclement weather to catering for the food tastes of the youngest infant children our staff consistently go ‘above and beyond’ to ensure our clients receive exceptional service.

“These awards and the night itself give us the opportunity to recognise and celebrate their hard work and achievements.”
