Many of us remember well the day that Woolworths announced they would be closing their stores across the UK.
From their Pick ‘n’ Mix to CD top charts, the stores were a firm favourite with the British public.
Longer term residents of the town, and maybe a few visitors, will remember that Cromer had to say goodbye to their own Woolworths store over a decade ago.
The store stood in Church Street, where Iceland is now.
Members of the Enjoy Cromer More Facebook group shared their memories of the store.
Ness Jay Cooper wrote: “Used to use my teen paycheck to buy CDs. When younger the pick and mix and computer games always were awesome.
“And before it closed I got a large amount of home ware which is still going strong and Disney mugs.”
Jono Read added: “Think I got my first few mobile phones from there too. Hard to believe the latest mobile phone back then cost under £100!”
David Rowley: “I remember buying toys there back in the fifties and a lot of useful bits and pieces through the years. Sad day when it closed.”
Tori Brown added: “Spent all my summers and holidays in Cromer, I used to love Woolworths! We used to love the pick and mix and so many CDs!”
Jenny Holland added: “Still using some of the things I bought from Woolies over the years, they seem to last forever. One store I still miss.”
Sophie Colette Green wrote: “I used to buy the top of the pops magazine when I was much younger. I used to buy one a week especially from there.”
Tony Archer: “Used to by some great records from Woolies! All “cover” versions on the “Embassy” Label!”
Jill Hanlon: “I have a lot to thank Woolies for. I met my husband, of 50years, while I worked there. Many happy memories.”
Lia Hurst added: “Always found what I wanted at Woolies!”
Sue Gilder wrote: “I used to buy the “warm” peanuts!”
