As former Seaside Special comedian Bradley Walsh is named as Doctor Who’s assistant, we look at other stars who were born or developed on the Cromer Pier stage.
• Robert Marlowe:
Remembered as the man who made the Seaside Special a success. The former dancer directed the show for more than 20 years.
• Steve Hewlett:
The ventriloquist reached the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2013. He’ll be returning to the pier in April 2018.
• Richard Gauntlett:
Headlined the Seaside Special in 2000 and 2001, then became a dame and writer for the Norwich Theatre Royal panto.
• Danny Posthill:
Danny was one of the show’s two comics in 2013. The impressionist then went on to be a Britain’s Got Talent finalist in 2015.
• Dick Condon:
Internationally renowned theatre legend Richard Condon directed the Seaside Special shows in 1978 to help the pier get back on its feet.
• Lyn Paul:
Lyn joined the cast of the 2014 Christmas Show as a guest vocalist. Lyn is an actress and singer, who came to fame as part of group the New Seekers.
• Joey Howard:
Joey made his first appearance at the Cromer Pier in 2017, but has always been known as the drummer for group Badfinger.
• Bradley Walsh:
Bradley performed in the summer season in the 1980s. Presented TV’s The Chase and starred in EastEnders.
• Polly and Sophie Duniam:
Began dancing in pier shows as children. Went on to become backing dancers for Rita Ora, and starred in TV’s Home Farm Twins.
• Darren Day:
Singer Darren Day was another young hopeful to cut his teeth starring in the Seaside Special. He went on to conquer the West End.
